The event will also feature a gospel concert presented by WHLH Hallelujah 95.5 FM. Da Minister, known for his songs Don’t You Wanna Be Saved, Set it Off and his latest single Go Back, will perform. Stan Jones, producer for Yolanda Adams, the Williams Brother and other gospel greats, will also take the stage to introduce a new song.

The Go Healthy Challenge will address several children’s health issues including childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the United States and Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity in the nation.

One in three kids and teens in the US are overweight or obese. The American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton foundation partnered to combat childhood obesity by creating the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

Children and families attending the 2009 Go Healthy Challenge will receive information about a new initiative of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation called empowerMe.

empowerME is a “by kids for kids” movement that’s inspiring all kids to make healthy behavior changes and to become advocates and leaders for healthy eating and physical activity. Through empowerME, healthy lifestyles become “cool” for tweens and teens. In addition to working to engage 2 million kids in this movement by 2010, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation is encouraging kids to use their own voices to motivate each other, get educated and get activated. Adult can empower young people to take charge of their health by eating right and getting physically active.

For more information about the 2009 Go Healthy Challenge or the empowerMe movement call the American Heart Association at 601-321-1200.

Sponsors for the 2009 Go Healthy Challenge include Hallelujah 95.5 and Comcast Spotlight.
