· NAACP Education Summit, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (registration at 9 a.m.) Aug. 9, Jackson Medical Mall, 350 W. Woodrow Wilson Drive, Jackson: includes a giveaway of book bags filled with school supplies from Wal-Mart; registration is required; details: (601) 750-8451.
· Good Samaritan Center, 114 Millsaps Ave., Jackson: a clothing closet, open Mondays at 9 a.m., and on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m., offers free clothing, including pieces that can be assembled for school uniforms; the center also donates school supplies directly to Jackson Public Schools sites that identify students' needs; details: (601) 355-6276.
· Junior League of Jackson: provides school-supply needs for 850 students and teachers at Barr, Poindexter and Baker Elementary schools in Jackson; the League will make a delivery on Wednesday; details: (601) 359-3016.
· Jackson Public Schools' Partners in Education (PIE) program: operates a store that accepts donated school supplies and materials as a service for teachers; most schools also have been "adopted" by an organization, individual, etc., who will help meet its needs, including supplies; to donate to the PIE store or for information about adopting a school, call Rebecca Starling at (601) 960-8905.
