Parents & Kids 3rd Annual Christmas Fest

Remember all the things that made the Christmas season so special when you were a child…twinkling white lights, hot apple cider, live Nativity scenes, letters to Santa? Picture all that, plus more, and you’ll have a good idea of what’s in store for you and your family at the 3rd annual Christmas Fest, sponsored by Parents & Kids Magazine, along with Metro Christian Living and a host of other sponsors.

I admit, when it comes to Christmas, tradition is the name of the game for our family. There’s something about knowing some things will never change that gives me a warm sense of security.

Growing up, my parents always had everything on hand to make Christmas perfect for us…apple cider and egg nog, matching pajamas for my sister and me, those fabulous vinyl Christmas records playing on the stereo. Now that we have a family of our own, my husband and I are beginning some traditions we hope will give our kids a lot of joy for years to come, and attending Christmas Fest is definitely one at the top of our list!

The organizers of Christmas Fest thought of everything when they planned this family-friendly event, and they couldn’t have picked a better setting than the Agricultural and Forestry Museum to bring visitors back to a time when things were simple. Complete with a lighted miniature Christmas village, live Nativity scene, Christmas choirs, and a post office for mailing that all-important letter to Santa, this was truly an event that provided a relaxing, old fashioned Christmas experience for our family.

The highlight of the evening for our kids was the trackless train ride through the Christmas village, which was ablaze in twinkling white lights. My husband is still talking about the gigantic, snoring pig we saw at the Children’s Barnyard, and as for me, there was something about the hot apple cider that topped the whole thing off!

If a slow-paced, old fashioned Christmas is what you’re craving this year, take it from us and put Christmas Fest at the top of your must-do list. It’ll be an enchanting evening your whole family will enjoy!

The Christmas Fest runs Thursday through Saturday, December 11, 12 and 13. Hours are from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Admission is free. For information call 601-366-0901.
