Christmas is best celebrated as an experience. Not something you buy at the mall.
That’s the main reason we are producing our Christmas Fest for the third year in a row. This free event, held at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum on December 11th, 12th and 13th, is created just for you and your children (or grandchildren) in response to the marketing madness that surrounds Christmas.
This event is designed to let your children experience Christmas.
Christmas is about the smells and flavors of the season. It is experienced in the warmth of a house full of relatives both distant and near. The sounds of Christmas are very distinct and even our churches, fuller than usual this time of year, still seem to have an atmosphere of happy anticipation.
Christmas can be a joyful time that will be a bedrock of memories your children will carry with them for their entire lives. As you approach the holiday season, try to think of ways your family can experience Christmas without buying it. Musical performances, light displays, festivals—just like the Christmas Fest—can all help your family build a set of non-commercial traditions that carry on year after year. This is so much more valuable than this year’s hot toy.
Mark your calendars! Our free, non-commercial festival is December 11th, 12th and 13th (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) at the Ag Museum. Did I mention, admission is free? There will be a wonderful collection of local church and school choirs performing. There will be an interactive Living Nativity. Santa will let your child whisper into his ear while you snap the photo. Your children can ride the trackless train, experience the Fondren Express Trolley and view the lighted miniature village. Giveaways, like glow bracelets and coloring books, will let your child leave with a small token that does not require a parental wallet to open at all.
Please make plans now to join us.
