Start Planning Now for a Great Summer

For kids, summer activities abound. But some of the best opportunities may be limited to those who sign up first. It’s time to start figuring out how your family’s summer will work out, while you still have the most options.

While you are planning for your children’s organized activities, be sure to plan for some unstructured family time. Go to a park, conduct a bug hunt in the back yard (you don’t have to invite the bugs inside), go canoeing, or visit a state recreation area.

The beauty of these activities is that one, they are active. And who among us doesn’t need to be at least a little more active than we already are? And two, they are inexpensive to free. Summer fun doesn’t have to mean big bucks shelled out by mom and dad.

Recent studies have shown that kids value time with their parents above time with friends, fancy toys and stylish clothes. Your time and attention is one of the most important gifts you could ever give to your children.

Plan now to do some lazy summertime things. Canton teacher, Katie Shelt, has offered us some great ideas. Then there’s our backyard exploration article. No matter what you do, if you do it with your kids, rather than sending them off to do it by themselves you will be creating a family treasury of memories to enjoy forever.

Childhood is fleeting. Share in your kids’ childhood now.
